Wild Horse and Burro Program Terms and Abbreviations
Terms and abbreviations you might see on this site, Bureau of Land Management pages, and other advocacy pages, and what they mean:
BLM = Bureau of Land Management
HMA = Herd Management Area
HA = Herd Area
SAFE Act = Save Our Forgotten Equines Act
Complex = an area consisting of 2 or more herd areas that the BLM has combined into one herd area in an effort to reduce the number of wild horses or burros allowed
PZP = Porcine Zona Pellucida used as fertility control in wild horses and burros
Grazing Allotment = an area leased by a rancher to graze livestock (cattle and/or sheep)
CAWP = Comprehensive Animal Welfare Program
AIP = Adoption Incentive Program
DOI = Department of the Interior
